Mayorkas- Extraordinarily Disrespectful

Last week the House Homeland SECURITY Committee questioned Homeland SECURITY Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Unfortunately, the Secretary wasn’t really up to answering many questions.

Florida Republican Kat Cammack dared to ask Mayorkas a few questions anyway.

She asked Mayorkas if he supported the current SECURITY fence surrounding the Capitol building. In the spirit of the Biden administration’s transparency policy, he responded that he wasn’t an “expert” in that area and hadn’t studied the situation.

Earlier, he was asked if the border wall between Mexico and the United States should be completed. On that SECURITY barrier, he was an expert and, following the Democratic talking point, said no because experts said it did not work.  Those “experts” are never named or do they ever provide any data supporting their position. On the other hand, all of Mayorkas’s successors, including Obama appointee Jeh Johnson and the real experts, the Border Patrol Agents, support a physical barrier at the border. Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, and many other Democrats all supported a physical barrier in the past until they realized they could get more money, retain congressional seats, and garner votes if they changed their position.

Finally, Congresswoman Cammack said the following. “I just want to bring it home a little bit. See, I’m from a small town out west, and the month before I was supposed to graduate high school – which was 2006 – one of my classmates was kidnapped by an illegal who had been deported multiple times. And I think when you have policies that incentivize folks to come over illegally, and we don’t have the proper mechanisms in place to protect our borders, that kind of impact has resounding effects.

So, my question to you – her name was Amber Scott, the young lady who was kidnapped by this illegal criminal – how many more Ambers have to be kidnapped across America before you will take action?

Ironically Mayorkas did not have to answer this question. Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) declared that Cammock’s time was up. However, Mayorkas was not going to let her get away with that question and said the following. “Congresswoman, I find that question to be extraordinarily disrespectful” Disrespectful not only to me but disrespectful to the men and women of the Department of Homeland SECURITY and to all the frontline personnel throughout the country who dedicate themselves to the safety and SECURITY of the American people.”

No Secretary Mayorkas that question was right on point. Congresswoman Cammack was not referring to the men and women of DHS. She was referencing you, President Biden, and all of the Democrats who have ignored our laws and protected illegal aliens even after they had committed additional crimes for decades.

Let me add a little perspective. As you are aware, annual statistics on criminal alien crime are not available. Fortunately, the Government Accounting Office (GAO) has produced three reports (2005, 2011, and 2016), compiling the criminal data for each over a five-year period using illegal alien identification per the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP).

The second report covering 2003-2009, the same period Ms. Scott was kidnapped, showed illegal aliens had been convicted of kidnapping 14,788 people. The most recent period, 2010-2015, showed that criminal aliens in state prisons had been convicted of  kidnapping 18,600 people, and those in Federal prisons were convicted of kidnapping 5,600 people.

Congresswoman Cammack, let me answer your question about how many Amber Scotts have to be kidnapped? Not counting those kidnapped from 2016 through today, at least 38,998 and growing.

To me, Secretary Mayorkas’s refusal to answer questions is nothing new. Fellow Board member Sabine Durden and I met with Secretary Mayorkas In June 2014. My son was killed four years earlier by an unlicensed driver, and Ms. Durden’s son was killed in 2012 by an unlicensed driver. Both drivers had previously been caught driving without a license. The man who killed Ms. Durden’s son was caught twice before also driving under the influence, the second time less than 60 days before he killed her son.

Like Congresswoman Cammack, I dared to ask then-Assistant Secretary Mayorkas if he considered a crime that results in the death of over 7,200 people a year a minor offense?

You can read his answer here.

Secretary Mayorkas, many of the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security risk their lives every day doing their jobs. You risk the American people’s lives every day by not doing yours.

You owe Congresswoman Cammack an apology. You owe the American people your resignation.
